Calling it quits
After 7 years, I've put in my letter of resignation. I started with this company as a line cook, upgraded to chef's assistant, took on some managerial tasks and a wackload of other duties that others generally didn't like doing. I went from $10/hour line cook to $12.23/hour kitchen manager...$12 freaking bucks per hour...to manage a kitchen...dish washers and people flipping burgers at McDonald's earn more. I've been grabbing for that dangling carrot with each new manager and director that comes in promising me advancements once I prove myself only to have those promises broken when they leave and I have to do the same shit over again with the new shrub. I ran the fucking place for 8 months when they fired the chef while I was still injured and no extra pay, I single handedly did tasks meant for 3 people by myself, and I've seen new hires take on jobs at my level starting at $13/hour but I still busted my ass helping them. My final straw was a year ago but not for promises made by someone that had more backing her up...but that ended in disappointment as well. It was an easy decision but hard to decide. I really wanted to go forward in this career path but by my treatment, this company seems would have rather seen me dead making them a few extra bucks then to push me forward. Thank you Compass Group Canada. |
