Hey Burnie, I actually know a reason for that elevator Door Close button to exist.
There is a trick used by cops to get to a certain floor faster using the elevator. You hold the Door Close button and then at the same time hold the button for the floor you want.
This will allow you to go directly to the selected floor without interference from another person calling the elevator. You also have to hold the buttons while the elevator is moving.
This is a very useful thing to know in a busy hotel.
